North Lake South Lake Loop • August 17–22

Campaign-2023-1600x1600.jpg

We have successfully secured the most competitive permits in the Eastern Sierra! And we got them for the southern start, which means more downhill than uphill. A six-day, five-night backpacking trip through one of the most incredible routes in all of the Sierra Nevada, the North Lake–South Lake Loop, starting from the Bishop Pass trailhead at South Lake. See map.

Itinerary

This will be a five-day 58-mile journey through the Evolution Valley in Kings Canyon National Park. We will witness some of the most remote wildlands in California on this loop, In LeConte Canyon, Piute Canyon, and Evolution Valley – the headwaters to the San Joaquin River. Crossing three mighty passes along the way, two of them nearly 12,000 feet! The ultimate in Sierra backpacking adventures, this trip is permit restricted to ten, requires a short shuttle from end to start, and will finish with a celebration in Bishop, CA.

Permit restricted to 10 people.

Each hiker is required to raise a minimum of $1,500 in sponsorships by August 13th to participate. We climb to fundraise for the Trailmixer OUTdoor Access Fund. 100% of the TOAF money will be converted into scholarships to low-income LGBTQ+ youth so they participate in leadership programs, outdoor activities, and environmental teachings provided by our amazing partners. Within the next few days, we will send you an email with instructions to start your personal fundraiser page.

Daily hiking mileages and campsites still to be determined. More details will be added to this page in the upcoming weeks.
