Updated: Feb 9, 2023

Meet at trailhead Saturday, January 18 @ 9:30am.

Happy 2020, hikers!!!

We are starting the new year a hike to Santa Anita Canyon/Sturtevant Falls (Albert Day's suggestion). Great time of the year to do it due to the rains.

Level: Moderate Length: 8.7 miles Time: 4.5 hs Elevation Gain: 1660 ft

John: (213) 841-5499‬ Ulisses: (323) 377-4640

See more info below.

This is a popular trail, and parking can be difficult. Carpool if you can.

Plan on arriving at 9:15 or 9:30 as you may need to park up to ½ mile down the hill. We will leave the trailhead at 10:00 AM. All 4 tires need to be behind the white line, and you must display a Forest Service Adventure Pass. You can buy the Adventure Pass many places including REI. You can purchase one at the trailhead too, at Adams Pack Station Store, but keep in mind you need to run it back down to your car. Here’s where to buy one:

If you don't have the pass, rangers will put an envelope on your windshield so you can mail the fee in.

Adams Pack Station also has private parking spots for $20, but it does fill up.

This is a moderately difficult loop hike, one of the best around. Sturtevant Falls has an impressive 60-foot drop. The highest point is Mount Zion which is an optional spur trail making the total mileage over 9 miles.

Bring at least 3 liters of water, energy snacks and a lunch. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, hiking boots and water shoes for creek crossings if you slip off the rocks.
